Meet Peter Swanson, master potter

We are inspired by them daily, and we stock a selection of their work in the showroom. Predominately made in the UK although there is quite a collection of wonderful pieces from all over Scandinavia too.

In the coming months, we plan to tell you just a little bit more about these talented and creative individuals and to start with we would like to introduce you to the work of master potter Peter Swanson. Based in Cornwall not far from St. Michael’s Mount, Peter first began working in potteries from 1967 in between travelling the world. In 1974 Peter moved to St. Ives Cornwall helping his family establish a pottery on the Penbeagle estate.

Self-taught, he established his pottery in 1976 working in earthenware. Over the years his method of working evolved, he now works in reduction fired stoneware and porcelain, specialising in specific varieties of individual ash glazes. From 2013 to 2014, Peter was on the board of the highly acclaimed Leach Pottery in St. Ives.

Clare Laughland interiors is very privileged to sell his work in the showroom; we are one of a very few independent shops and galleries to do so. We so look forward to stocks running low so we can take a trip down to his wonderful studio and collect more of his beautiful and highly collectable work.

Come and see his work in our showroom or visit Peter’s website.
